That's this blog finished with then. Not really a lot in it, but there hopefully you got an idea of the kind of decisions made and problems faced during the shooting of our production. I shall now leave you with one last meme for your journey...goodbye.
We've finally finished all our filming. Like, there's absolutely none left, and that makes us feel very happy. The new opening shots look soooooo much better than the other ones, and we're pretty confindent that this film is going to end up looking pretty special. The new location we used was a lot easier to film in, and we made the mise-en-scene look a lot better this time around. Charlie's FIFA skills didn't improve though...(seriously dude, sort it out). All we need to do now is edit, and edit hard.
While editing today we decided we need to re-do the entirety of our opening... We've decided to keep the same general theme for the opening, but change the length of some shots and add in new ones to make the opening sequence more engaging for the audience and highlight the characters more, rather than the events taking place. We're going to film tomorrow at a new location: Charlie's house.
We just finished our stuff in the bar, and i must say the things we have done today are pretty good. We managed to fit in what is essentially two sessions worth of filming into one day, and we are quite happy with the results.
We must thank our very helpful cast members Tayo and Alice, as we pretty much couldn't have done it without them. Thanks also goes to the very kind people at Footscray Rugby Club who let us film in their bar, it looked really good and we are very grateful for their help. Hopefully we won't have to film again, but we do have the week after half term to do any extra bits or re-shoots. We got rained out again. The weatherman lied to us. We were all ready to film, then the storm came... I'm making it more dramatic than it was but it was pretty darn annoying. However, we have been informed by the BBC weather app that tomorrow (Thursday 13th) is going to be sunny. Provided that the weathermen haven't lied again, we will attempt to squeeze in the shots we need to our shoots tomorrow. Basically we'll go straight from Joe's house to Cold Harbour, film there, then go to Footscray to finish up all our last bits of filming. Then we edit like we've never edited before...
We got quite a lot done today, and we're pretty happy with what we've got. We travelled to Jess' house to film our opening and our end scenes, which sandwich the montage with some lovely exposition and context. It was a long day, but the shots we got look pretty good as far as we can tell, though it's difficult to determine the quality until we get to the edit. Jess' Dad had a starring role as the villain of the piece, and we were all pretty impressed with his acting talents. We were less impressed with Charlie's FIFA skills :-/
But I digress, all in all a pretty good day. After the disaster that was Thursday its good to actually have something to show for our hard work. All in all, today was...a train wreck form start to finish. We actually had far less to film than we had realised, and we did get some alright shots, but the rain made everything that little bit more depressing, both in terms of our group morale and the film itself. We were unbelievably cold, and wet, so we got what we could and gave up. We'll probably put what we did get up as test shots. Since today was a complete bust, we will have to reschedule our filming to accommodate reshoots of these sequences, which we plan to complete on Wednesday 12th February from 1.25pm, since the weather then is supposedly going to be alright. One silver lining in the big ass cloud that was our day, however, was the new location we 'found' (read: borrowed from the other British film group after helping them out) as we felt that, while the mise-en-scene at Eltham high street was good, the stuff here was just on another level of Britishyness, and had the added benefit of being virtually empty of people, and I think we can all agree that shouts of 'Are you making a porn film?' will not be missed. And here it is: our new location....(insert drum roll here)..... Cold Harbour Estate!!!!This is just better in every way. There's still shops in the background if we need them, there's a lovely long pathway we can do our tracking shot on, there's a little park we can use for our end scene, plus there's a whopping great block of flats in the back that gives a slightly more working class feeling than Eltham High street (no offense). We'll come back here on Wednesday and reshoot what we did today when, hopefully, it won't be raining. Goddamn British weather...
We've started this very sexy new blog prior to our first day of filming tomorrow so we can document what happens on each shoot: what goes well, what goes not-so-well, and what we inevitably completely change from our original plan. So keep coming back to get regular updates on what the hell is happening with JSCJ-en-scene Productions.
