in my analysis of this opening scene to lamb and the slaughter I believe the mis-en-scene in particular work very well; seeing as the character playing Mrs Maloney is actually a woman the age of a motherly figure. This accompanies the scenery and opening sequence commendably well as the titling used perceives a very smooth and mature transitioning; however I believe with its strengths comes some weaknesses as does anything, and I believe the titling could have differentiated a little more and the subtle murderous woman could be more effectively presented within the scene.

The opening title sequence to Casino Royale is effective in that the titling blends into the background very subtly as there are so many action shots moved by transitions that draw the audience into a comfortable, exciting opening to the film. The constant action captures the adventure/action genre perfectly as there is so much going on with the constant colour changes to keep the audience on the edge of their seats. The black to red colour contrasts with shadowed figures portrays the mystery and secrecy for James Bond, where as the red figures contrast with this to present danger in the opening title sequence as it foreshadows the definite danger James is going to set himself in throughout the film. The score consists of many loud jazz instruments and male dominant singing to introduce the power behind James Bond which enhances the audiences excitement ultimately.
The opening to Open Grave, an almost mixed horror-thriller genre based film begins with multiple close-ups to keep the audience in the protagonists shoes in not knowing what is going on and how he got there. The scene is filled with motivated lighting giving the audience an extremely real feel to the scene making them feel as if they were there which makes the scene reasonably uncomfortable to watch. as the scene proceeds the camera is drawn out to an expanded shot further and furthermore to introduce the audience to the surroundings the protagonist is facing whilst he finds out himself. The mis-en-scene presents a dirty, hopeless feel to the character as it brings great detail into the small objects which distracts us from the surroundings from him, which makes us feel uncomfortable and scared as we are unsure what is going to happen next. This is stereotypical of the usual thriller as the protagonist is portrayed as weaker and to a near death experience which is exciting, whilst the audience is kept filled with anxiety from the point of view as if the protagonist is being followed. Towards the end of the scene the camera is expanded fully to a high angle, establishing shot which is essential in interesting the audience to carry on watching the film as everyone is left on edge, wanting to find out what happened to the character.

Despite the quality, the opening scene to kidulthood the half montage/action filled cuts presents a very exciting, gossipy feel to school life for the elderly teenager life presented in the film we are trying to grasp. The close ups of the football being played with a less expensive type trainer portrays the characters to be of a rough, run down background which is similar to the idea we had developed in the same sense for our own project as the elder respected characters abuse the power they have over the younger generation; although the younger teenagers are oblivious to this as they find this is the only way to entertain themselves without money to do sensible activities with their friends.
The mis-en-scene of the characters is quite stereotypical being shown in a school play ground, with short unorderly ties that trends amongst the playground, in addition to this one of the characters 'moony' has a gameboy at hand showing not only his young stereotype yet also his wealth as it is a run down, second hand looking item that is later taken in the film; which makes him angry showing something as small as this is such a prized possession.
Strengths
- One strength of the opening which we could take from the film would be the close up of football being played at some point in the opening; in contrast to the mis-en-scene of cheap, run down trainers to show the characters low wealth in the scene.
- Another strength grasped through the concept of the film would be the scenery and clothing, the playgeound mischief followed behind a high paced score introduces teenage life as a gossip filled, high hormone mess; which is true and to be placed in our aim of our opening
Weaknesses
- One weakness i think is presented in this opening would be the use of dialogue (diegetic sound) i believe this takes away effect from the viewer as this should be an opening the viewer should take of their own perspective, adding diegetic sound takes away the continuity within the scene and opens up the film before it has even started
- I believe titling would be effective at this certain scene of the film, this being the opening could easily be a gateway to introducing characters or even adding a voice over of the protagonist if sound is prominent.

` the opening of snatch portrays a very similar approach to the genre we are trying to capture within british film; the idea of 1 or 2 word descriptions for each character presents a like-able view on each of the gritty personnel, instead of an evil, negative perspective. The freeze frames for each also match the genre specific elements as each freeze frame presents the character in a different way. For example doug the head is frozen with a close up of just his head to show his characteristics within his leading ways. The fast paced handling with money followed on by the continuity presents the slippery traits of each character as one scene falls into another where the 'team' as you like are presented. This scene is similar to what we try to capture however from a much less intense and younger point of view, showing the abuse of elder characters in content of the teenagers who believe this is a fun way of life. Our scene is more lively and up beat to show not only the like-ability of each character and scene yet also the power presented of the older generation which influences the children to do bad things in todays society.
Strengths
- The freeze frames and catchy nick names present a like-ability to each character and introduces them to describe their traits without pulling away from the fact they're bad people which is usually a common element in british film
- The continuity shows a good volume of continuity with everything going on at once provides good match-on action as the scene proceeds.
Weaknesses
- There are not many things wrong with the scene as it is an ideal opening to the british genre in my opinion; however a little longer on each character would give a greater understanding for the audience as too many characters are presented in such a short period of time
